Milwaukee named the best city for creatives, report says
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Educators are encouraging families to incorporate structured learning into summer routines to help children retain academic skills during the break from school. Research indicates students typically lose two months of reading proficiency and one month of overall learning during summer if academic activity is minimal.
Judy Cohen of Lakeside Educational Services joined us Monday, June 23 to outline preventative steps.
She advised parents to consult teachers before school ends, participate in library programs and build reading routines at home. Cohen also recommended forming small activity clubs using common materials to reinforce writing and math.
Local libraries and educational service providers continue to offer summer programs.
