Town of Brookfield Police respond to report of 'suspicious package' at Aldi

BROOKFIELD, Wis. (CBS 58) -- The Town of Brookfield Police Department received a call regarding a suspicious package located next to a garbage can in front of a building at the Aldi on Bluemound Road.
Officers responded and observed the item that appeared to be a fire safe with the key visible on the outside.
Police say the location and placement of the item was deemed suspicious in nature.
Area businesses were evacuated while officers secured the area.
The Milwaukee County Sheriff Explosive Ordinance Disposal Unit responded and found that the item was not a threat.
Businesses resumed normal operations around 5 p.m.
It is still unknown why the item was placed there.
