Sendik's bringing back Hatch Chile Pepper Roasting

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Sendik’s Food Markets is bringing back the popular Hatch Chile Pepper Roasting event. During the last two weekends of August select Sendik’s locations will offer a unique variety of items made with Hatch chile peppers, and host roasting.

Hatch chile peppers are grown only in the Mesilla Valley of New Mexico and are available for just a few short weeks each year in August and September. Harvested from fertile soil along the Rio Grande, Hatch chile peppers thrive in the river valley’s combination of nutrient-rich soil, intense sunlight and cool desert nights. The peppers develop thick walls and meaty, flavorful flesh unlike any other chile. They have a devoted following and have sparked exciting annual rituals across the country.

“With the roar of the roaster, the unforgettable taste and aroma of the peppers, there really isn’t anything else like our Hatch Chile Pepper Roasting in Wisconsin,” said Patrick Balistreri, family co-owner. “Many of our shoppers look forward to this annual event, and we’re so happy to be able to bring a bit of southwest flair to Milwaukee.”

Hatch Chile Pepper Roasting events will take place at the following times and Sendik’s locations:

● Saturday, Aug. 18, 9 a.m.–5 p.m. - Franklin (5200 W. Rawson Ave.) and West Bend (280 N. 18th Ave.)

● Sunday, Aug. 19, 9 a.m.–5 p.m. - Hartland (600 Hartbook Dr) and Waukesha-Meadowbrook (701 Meadowbrook Rd.)
