Milwaukee Mayor Hopes to Expand Loan Compliance Program

Mayor Tom Barrett is hoping to expand the city's loan compliance program in the new city budget.

That budget will come out Monday.

Before it does the mayor presented an example of how the program is helping homeowners in Milwaukee.

It's basically a loan program through the city that helps people fix up their properties.

People like Staci Mays, who needed more security at her home where she lives with her two young children.

"I’m really grateful, it's such a burden lifted off of me. i give so much back to the community through my job at pearls for teen girls and it it's just awesome to feel that love back from my community and having them produce something that my family can grow up in and it's just a really good feeling,” said Mays.

Through the loan program she was able to get a new roof, fence and gutters.

Staci is just one of about 75 people in the city who have benefited from the program.
