Janesville Police: Special Education Teacher Assaulted Student at School

Janesville, WI (CHANNEL 3000) Police said a Janesville middle school teacher had been assaulting a student for more than a year and was arrested Friday.

Janesville police and the School District of Janesville held a news conference at the police department on Jackson Street Friday afternoon to announce the arrest.

Aaron O'Reilly, 44, of Edgerton, was taken into custody on suspicion of repeated sexual assault of a child and was at Rock County Jail Friday, police said.

O'Reilly was a special education teacher at Edison Middle School for 16 years, the district said.

Police said O'Reilly told an Edgerton police officer that he had, had a "sexual relationship" with a student that began about two years ago and lasted a year and a half. The assault took place at Edison Middle School, at O'Reilly's home in Edgerton and at the student's home.

The school district said O'Reilly was put on paid administrative leave after police notified the district of the investigation. The district said it also locked O'Reilly's access to district buildings, computer networks, files and email immediately learning of the investigation. The district is seeking to terminate O'Reilly and said it was "deeply disheartened" over the charges.

At the news conference, officials said they were withholding the age of the student to protect her identity.
