South Milwaukee Fire Displaces Three Families

The Red Cross is assisting 3 families following an apartment fire in South Milwaukee overnight.  According to the South Milwaukee Fire Department, ten people were displaced by the 11:30 PM fire.  The fire started in a kitchen in one of the units in the multi-family home at 13th and Manistique Avenues.  The fire then extended into the attic of the building.  The residents of the building, a family of five and two mothers with children  were able to get out of the building safely before firefighters arrived.  No one was hurt in the blaze.   South Milwaukee firefighters were on scene for about 90 minutes.  Because of the  fire and smoke damage, the families were unable to return to the building and the Red Cross stepped into assist.  The dollar amount of damage to the building is still being determined.
