PNC Milwaukee Running Festival Marathon set for Nov. 1

The Milwaukee Common Council quietly approved the Milwaukee Running Festival this week.  The first of its kind, the festival will include a full marathon, half-marathon, 5K run, and one-mile race.  It will run through all different neighborhoods across the city.  There was some initial push-back from Alderman Willie Wade who argued the route didn't go through the north side.  The route includes a long stretch up Sherman Boulevard, into Sherman Park and back down into Washington Park.  Registration already opened for the race.  The event organizer says the race is already generating interest across the country.

\"We've been doing a good job of getting the word out in the running community that this event is happening,\" Milwaukee Running Festival Executive Director Chris Ponteri said. \"We've had people, the last I looked was 26 different states register, so it really is going to bring a lot of people from out of town to Milwaukee.\"

Registration is open.  The route still needs to be finalized, but Ponteri said any changes would be minor.
