Wauwatosa's first Christkindlmarket is now open

NOW: Wauwatosa’s first Christkindlmarket is now open

WAUWATOSA, Wis. (CBS 58) -- For 10 more days, Wauwatosa will come alive with polka music, mulled wine and chalets filled with local artisans.

It's the first annual Christkindlmarket taking place in Wauwatosa. Christkindlmarkets are traditional holiday markets found in places like Munich and all over Europe.

"This has been about two years in the making," said Maria Panno, the holiday market director.

"We have things like hand-stamped ornaments, liquor-filled chocolates, those are actually from Europe, but that same vendor is actually making the most delicious hot chocolate," said Panno.

You can shop 30 different chalets for gifts from local artisans, like ornaments from Melissa Makes XYZ and coaster coupons from City Tins

The Winter Garden will offer live music every day, as well as beer and German food like pretzels, brats and more.

The market opens at 10 a.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday and 3 p.m. Monday through Thursday.
