WAUWATOSA, Wis. (CBS 58) -- It was an early morning practice for Team Carlson at the Wauwatosa Curling Club

All month long, they'll be prepping to head to Fargo, N.D. for the USA Club National Championships. These five guys have been playing together for about five seasons.

"It just kind of developed into a team that got really competitive, and you know, we just kept at it and kept trying," said Ryan Carlson.

Team Carlson recently won title of Team Wisconsin at the Club Playdowns, beating out a dozen others. Now, they'll compete to be the best in the country. The Wauwatosa Curling Club is home to many teams that compete in Bonspiels, or tournaments, but there are players in all skill levels.

"The competitive nature here at Wauwatosa has certainly increased in the last 10 years since I've been curling," said Calrson.

The club operates out of the Muellner Building at Hart Park. Right now, this club team is focused on Nationals, but as soon as the season ends, the building will undergo a $2 million dollar renovation.

The Wauwatosa Curling Club is fully run by volunteers. Before they go out to play, you'll see them cleaning the ice. And after a game, it's time for a good broomstacking.

"After a game, it's almost expected of you to walk off the ice, sit down and have a beverage with the opposing team and share stories in the company of others," said Carlson. "You may come in for the competitive nature of curling, but you probably stay for the social aspects."

The Club Nationals takes place in Fargo, N.D. from April 2 through April 6. If they win, they'll advance to represent the USA against Canada this September.
