'Something in my heart knew': Kenosha family seeks justice after loved one murdered

NOW: ’Something in my heart knew’: Kenosha family seeks justice after loved one murdered

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Monday, the family of 20-year-old Julian Flores, a Kenosha man who was shot and killed Saturday, Feb. 10, spoke out for the first time since his murder.

Family members described Flores as a "real good kid," quiet and respectful. So when they got the news he was murdered, they were left in a state of shock.

"I never ever in my life thought I was going to see him like that. Never," said Johnny Flores, cousin of Julian Flores.

The mother of the 20-year-old said when she arrived on the scene where her son had been murdered, her mother's intuition kicked in.

"Something in my heart knew, I'm like that's my son," said Yuridia Arenas, mother of Julian Flores.

Arenas says Saturday night seems to be playing on a loop in her memory.

"I was just standing there, seeing my son on the floor, and that image does not go away, it just repeatedly comes in my mind. That’s the last image of my son," said Arenas.

According to the Kenosha Police Department, Flores was killed near 42nd and Sheridan in Kenosha.

Police said the murder happened around 6 p.m. Saturday night.

Arenas told CBS 58 she talked to her son less than an hour before he was killed.

"Instead of seeing my son, I saw him on the floor, dead. But at least I got to talk to him before he died, 40 minutes before everything happened," said Arenas.

The family said they are not sure what caused Flores to be killed, but they are hopeful their loved one's murder will be solved.

"Do it the right way and own up to your mistakes and face it," said Arenas.

Kenosha police say they are still investigating this case. Anyone with information is asked to contact Kenosha police or the Kenosha Area Crime Stoppers at 262-656- 7333.
