A six-year-old child is recovering in a hospital after being shot in Milwaukee Tuesday night.

The shooting happened on the northside near 38th and Rohr.

CBS 58 spoke with people who know that little boy. They said he's at Froedtert hospital being treated for his injuries, after being struck by a stray bullet.

"It's becoming such a part of your daily life that’s the scary part," said a woman who lives down the street from the shooting.

She said she was home when the gunshots rang out.

"I was in my bedroom I heard six-gun shots, before you can get a chance to move, they were just like 'pop pop pop'…"

Police said the child was shot just after nine and taken to a nearby hospital to be treated for his injuries.

Police have not said how the boy was shot, but they say he is expected to survive.

"It's very uneasy, it’s a very uneasy feeling just to know that a child has been shot," said a concerned neighbor.

"Those in those decision making positions have to know and see the same thing that we as citizens out here see and hear, and they need to form some kind of legislation to deal with this," said the concerned neighbor.
