MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- The Milwaukee Brewers are gearing up to celebrate the 30-year anniversary of the Famous Racing Sausages, who made their debut on June 27, 1993, as the first live-action mascot race in Major League Baseball.
Tom Hecht, VP of Consumer Experience with the Milwaukee Brewers and the Racing Sausages themselves joined us in-studio on Thursday, July 6 to discuss the celebration.
The festivities will continue Friday, July 7, when the Brewers play the Cincinnati Reds at 7:10 p.m. The event features a pregame ceremony honoring the Famous Racing Sausages. Michael Dillon, who proposed transforming the race into a live-action spectacle, will throw a ceremonial first pitch.
The Johnsonville Sausage Race, featuring the "Original Three Sausages," will take place, with photo opportunities, games, giveaways and coloring sheets for children available near the Home Plate Gate. Additionally, ticket holders will receive a Johnsonville coupon for a buy one, get one free package of any flavor Johnsonville smoked or cooked sausage.
