Man charged, accused of stabbing security guard at Columbia St. Mary's on Milwaukee's east side

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- A Milwaukee man has been criminally charged after allegedly stabbing a security guard at Columbia St. Mary's hospital Monday, Jan. 29.

According to a criminal complaint, officers responded to the hospital on Lake Drive just after 6 a.m. and found 18-year-old Edgar Padilla pointing a knife at security officers. After an officer identified himself and drew his firearm, the complaint says Padilla threw the knife down.

While being handcuffed, prosecutors say Padilla taunted security, stating, "I'll stab your (expletive) again!" and while being escorted out, yelled, "He deserved that! I hope he (expletive) dead."

Investigators say the security guard who was stabbed sustained wounds to his head and upper right back after he told Padilla he could not loiter on the hospital grounds and asked him to leave.

Padilla left the grounds between 4-5 a.m., according to the complaint, but returned around 6 a.m. The security guard confronted Padilla again, and Padilla then threatened to "stab and kill" him. The guard then told Padilla to go to the waiting room if he wanted medical attention.

Police spoke with the victim who told them when he went to use the restroom, Padilla came from behind and stabbed him. The victim said he was able to wrestle Padilla out of the bathroom and tried to close the door as Padilla stabbed it with the knife. He said he left the bathroom when he saw Padilla drop the knife, but Padilla picked it back up and stabbed the victim again in the head and back.

Detectives interviewed Padilla, who stated that he was homeless and tried to sleep in the hospital parking structure, but that the security guard woke him up and "upset" him.

He allegedly admitted to waiting for an opportunity to stab the victim and bragged that he "stabbed his (expletive)" and could have killed him.

Padilla is charged with one count attempted first-degree intentional homicide, with use of a dangerous weapon.

Court records show cash bond was set at $50,000.

A preliminary hearing is set for Feb. 8.
