The Milwaukee Fire Department responded to a call around 2 AM of smoke coming out of a building at N 38th and W Vliet Streets. When firefighter arrived they discovered two vehicles parked behind the business were on fire and the fire had extended to the business. A power line which had fallen across the vehicles and a leaking propane tank complicated the firefighter’s response. The call was escalated to a two-alarm fire to increase the number of personnel fighting the fire. Firefighters were able to extinguish the flames within an hour. The residents of two buildings on either side of the business were evacuated for safety, but there was no fire damage to those buildings. No civilian was injured. One firefighter did suffer an undisclosed injury. Damage to the building which housed a tattoo shop is estimated at $100,000. The loss of contents is estimated at $20,000. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
