Summer of Peace Rally Takes Place

Through parades, tributes, games and music children and adults are gathering today to Promote the Positive.

The party just moved inside because of the rain but that isn't dampening anyone's spirit this is the 14th year for the event.

It all started around 10:30 AM on Friday, and kicked off with a community parade.

There are speakers, performances, and a whole lot more.

This is put on every year for the young people in the community to both explore and express their opinions on quality of life issues, and the level of violence in their own communities.

"The connectivity that comes out of it and the support system that comes out of it young people know that there's a network of support in Milwaukee for them. So they get a whole lot of love out of it,” said Fidel Verdin, organizer.

"With the headlines we see on a daily basis from people getting shot and people getting killed, often times we have to look at young people and hear the messages from them for us as adults to be more responsible and our actions and hopefully lead us towards peace,” said Alderwoman Milele Coggs.
