Waukesha Request for Lake Michigan Water Gets a "Qualified Thumbs Up"

Waukesha's request to use Lake Michigan water got a “qualified thumbs up” on Wednesday.

The regional body representing Great Lakes States and provinces approved the request, with some conditions attached.

Minnesota is still studying the request so its representative did not vote.

Wednesday's vote is not the last word however.

That decision is expected sometime next month.

Waukesha Mayor Shawn Reilly said in a statement "We are hopeful that the great lakes states will agree with the regional body's findings.  The citizens of Waukesha need the healthy and sustainable water supply that only borrowing and returning Lake Michigan water can reasonably provide."
