Jury finds Cohill Guilty of Reckless Homicide

Jury finds Damarquae Cohill guilty of two counts in the fatal shooting death of Bill Thao.

Cohill was found guilty of first degree of recklessly endangering safety and guilty first degree reckless homicide,

Closing arguments took place on Thursday afternoon in the Cohill Trial.

Defense argued the prosecution did not give evidence Cohill fired the gun. Prosecution said witness stories lined up, and Cohill had a motive.

The defense rested Thursday morning, and Damarquae Cohill did not testify.

Cohill was accused of killing baby Bill Thao.

Defense brought in a digital forensics certified practitioner to discuss phone records. The defense questioned when calls were made and what towers they used and which direction the signal came from. The expert said it cannot triangulate the exact location.

The prosecution rested on Wednesday.

Multiple detectives and officers from the Milwaukee Police Department were called as witnesses on Wednesday.

Much of it focused on the interview with Kwesan Sanders.

He was the main witness in this case who initially identified Damarquae Cohill as the man who shot at the baby.

Prosecutors asked the detectives about discussions with Sanders.  They told the jury how Sanders identified Cohill with a photo array.

Police said he did so without any promises from the police department.

Cohill’s attorneys argued that Sanders testimony to police was different than in the court. Because Sanders repeatedly answered no and said he was “not the shooter.”

Cohill’s attorneys also questioned why the interview with sanders wasn't recorded.

“I understand. My question is why. Why is that the case? Why do you rarely record interviews with people who are not suspects," said Cohill’s attorney.
