Local group encourages community to embrace those who are Big, Beautiful & Blessed

Big, Beautiful, & Blessed organization is committed to cultivating a positive self and body image in all women. Focusing on the beauty of women with curves, size 12 and up.

One of the group's founders, Shemelian Bowman, was  a special guest on the CBS 58 News at 4 p.m. Monday to discuss the launch of yet another calendar showing women of all sizes in a positive way.

Valencia, who was selected runway model of the year, also spoke of the transformation that happens when you accept yourself and other learn to accept themselves by your example.

Organizers hope to open the public's heart and mind to beauty beyond the physical!

They also have a special mother's day contest coming up.

You're asked to submit a video on why your mother should get a makeover and special hotel prize package.

CBS 58 has covered the efforts of this group in the community in the past.

Most notably, last spring when they launched a prom dress drive for high school students of all ages.

The group has also organized several events related to female empowerment, including self defense classes.

There are plans in the works for a special event to celebrate mothers.
