Taste of Ireland at Turner Hall marks half way to St. Patrick's Day with charity and fun

This Thursday, September 17th, the Milwaukee Chapter of the Ancient Order of Hibernians will mark the half way point to St. Patrick's Day with a "Tase of Ireland."

Irish themed restaurants from throughout the region will compete for votes to win a coveted trophy. There will also be awards for the people's choice of the best wild card item.

"A couple of years ago there were some local schools that we support that we wanted to do something bigger for," explained AOH Vice President Shannon Burns. "We also wanted an event that got us involved in the community. An event that got our name out there more and helped us with recruiting. We thought what could be better than getting the best food, Irish entertainment and just having a good time."

The schools that will benefit from the fundraiser are Nativity Jesuit, St. Rose and Notre Dame.

Last year, the event raised $30,000.

Ticket price includes sampling of the dishes and entertainment from Tallymoore, U2 Zoo and the Shamrock Club Pipe and Drums.

The AOH is the oldest Catholic Irish-American fraternal organization in America, dedicated to the principles of Friendship, Unity, and Christian Charity.
