Packers trim five to begin week of roster cuts

Green Bay -

The trimming of the Packers training camp roster began Monday with the release of five players.

Defensive lineman Lavon Hooks, linebackers Tavarus Dantzler and Josh Francis, and tackles Vince Kowalski and Fabbians Ebbele were all released Monday as the Packers begin the process of cutting their roster down to 53 by the end of this week.

The team still has to remove eight players from their active roster to get to the league mandated 75 by Tuesday. One spot can be saved by putting Jordy Nelson on injured reserve.

Green Bay plays its final preseason game Thursday against the New Orleans Saints at Lambeau Field in a game you can catch in Spanish on Telemundo Wisconsin. The regular season opener is September 13th in Chicago.
