The Sweet Sixteen effect at Marquette University

MILWAUKEE- The impact of Marquette going to their third Sweet Sixteen in a row is bigger than just basketball.

According to Dave Murphy, Marquette's Senior Director of Brand Marketing, a solid run to the big dance can bring in major financial donors.

Murphy points to the Al McGuire Center's completion after a Final Four run with Dwayne Wade as an example

He said it also presents an opportunity for people to learn about the school, bring in more prospective students, and finally build the alumni base.

Murphy said the impact can be easily seen online.

On a typical Saturday the Marquette website will get 20,000 hits, but on the day the Golden Eagles beat Butler, there was 40,000.

In a year, the website gets about 28 million hits, in the week since the Butler Game, Murphy said they have reached five million.

Nationally there are 55 official Marquette watch parties for the big game Thursday night.
