Wisconsin Prison Workers' Wages to Increase

Prison workers in Wisconsin are about to get a raise.

Beginning June 26th correctional officers, sergeants, and youth counselors will receive 80 cents more per hour. Correctional officers and sergeants at maximum security prisons will get an additional 50 cents an hour. Employees who don't receive a raise will be eligible for bonuses.

Department of Corrections Secretary Jon Litscher says he hopes the raises will help retain, as well as recruit, more staff.

DOC officials say the raises are expected to cost about $10 million annually, which will be covered by existing funds.
