NOW: ’We got his back, just like he got ours’: Fans, community organizations excited about Giannis extension

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- It's no secret Giannis Antetokounmpo has made an incredible impact on the court for the Milwaukee Bucks. His impact off the court has been equally impressive.

Inside Gee's Clippers on MLK Drive in Milwaukee's Bronzeville neighborhood, customers and employees were buzzing with excitement regarding the news Giannis has extended his contract with the Bucks for another three years.

"He's nice, he a good shooter. He can dunk," said Dashawn Akins, amid a fresh cut. "He gonna be the next MVP."

While his work off the court speaks for itself, barber Julian Woodruff is just as happy with number 34's impact off the court, helping inspire the city of Milwaukee.

"We blessed as a city. The sky's the limit for us," Woodruff said regarding having Giannis for the foreseeable future. "He's always involved. Always has his foot in Milwaukee. We need a player like that."

One of those impacts Giannis and his fiancé, Mariah, have been passionate about, is supporting Milwaukee Diaper Mission. The impact of having the attention and support of an NBA star has been invaluable to the nonprofit.

"We're very fortunate both Giannis and Mariah care deeply about our mission," said Milwaukee Diaper Mission founder Meagan Johnson. "That has turned into widespread awareness for Milwaukee Diaper Mission."

A champion on and off the court, one the team at Gee's Clippers can't wait to continue to support.

"It's new beginnings with the coaching, new beginnings with the team," Woodruff said. "We got his back, just like he got ours."
