UWM Panthers star BJ Freeman declares for NBA Draft, enters transfer portal

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee leading scorer B.J. Freeman took to social media on Tuesday, March 26 to announce his intentions to both enter the NBA Draft while also entering the NCAA transfer portal.

This gives the junior an opportunity to be selected by an NBA team during the 2024 NBA Draft, or to transfer to a different school.

In his statement, Freeman thanked the coaching staff and teammates for the time he spent with them during his two seasons at UWM. He also made special mention of the fans, saying, "Thank you all for continuing to believe in what has started to build at the university. This fan base welcomed me with open arms and continued to support and believe in me through all the ups and downs."

He added, "Milwaukee will always have a special place in my heart."


During the Panthers' 2023-24 season, Freeman averaged 21.1 points per game on 44.8 percent field goal percentage, while also shooting 35.1 percent from three-point range. He was also the team's leading rebounder, averaging 6.6 per contest.
