UPDATE: Bones found in vacant Milwaukee lot that used to be a cemetery

MILWAUKEE -- Police spent hours at the site of a garden near 13th and Juneau documenting the scene where construction crews found some bones Monday.

State crime lab technicians were also on scene and the remains were then transferred to the Milwaukee County Medical Examiner's office.

\"Police were called to a vacant lot in the 1200 block of N. 13th Street at about 5 p.m. on June 16,\" Lt. Mark Stanmeyer said, \"after the bones were unearthed during a construction project.\"

The area was cleared by noon the next day as investigators focused their attention on the land's history.

Back in the 1800's it was a cemetery and given the state of the bones, the leading theory is that this is not a criminal case, but a resting place that for some reason was never moved with the passage of time.

The M.E.'s office hopes to have more information on the age of the bones in the next couple of days.
