The Oldest Living Gibbon In North America Turns 50 Today!

RACINE - Today is a very special day for one white-handed gibbon. Yule, the oldest living Gibbon in North America, is turning 50-years-old today! He resides at the Racine Zoo and they are throwing him a Birthday bash.

White-handed gibbons typically live approximately 25 years in the wild and 40 to 50 years under human care.

To celebrate this historical event, the Racine Zoo is hosting a birthday party from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Guests can enjoy birthday cake flavored popcorn and learn more about Yule and the endangered white-handed gibbon. There will also be Yule birthday t-shirts for sale which benefit the Racine Zoo.

Yule was born in Southeast Asia in 1966 and came to the Zoo in 1986. He's the longest resident of the zoo and shares an exhibit with his 37-year-old daughter Robin. The two share a very strong bond.
