Sudden death of infant being investigated as homicide

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- The death of three month old is being investigated by the Milwaukee County Medical Examiner’s Office as a homicide.

The child was found on November 7 by her father in the 2000 block of West Atkinson Avenue.

It was noted in the Medical Examiner report that the baby had a healing rib. The final cause of death was blunt force injuries to the head.

According to the report, the baby was found by police in a car seat on top of a bed.  There was a pack N play in the room , but it had a purse and other personal effects inside of it.

The father said the baby and two siblings went to their babysitter the day she died.

He then took the infant’s mother to work with the infant in the car. He said the baby didn’t cry like usual when in the car she only had a faint cry.

He told police he typically left the baby in the car seat for 30-60 minutes before returning the baby to the pack N play.

The father told the medical examiner the baby had been sick for the past few days and had a fever. He said they did not have a thermometer but said the baby felt quite warm.

They would use cool compresses to help cool the baby. He said the baby was very fussy the day before.

Milwaukee Police interviewed the babysitter and the Medical Examiner interviewed the father and mother.
