Study finds that roundabouts help prevent serious crashes

Knowing how to navigate through a roundabout is considered a premium driving skill to most motorists.

There are more than 300 roundabouts in Wisconsin alone, and while most drivers want to steer clear of them, a recent study done by the Wisconsin Department of Transportation shows about a 40% drop in serious or even fatal accidents because of the unique traffic system.

The idea is to slow down while approaching the roundabout. Experts say drivers should yield to traffic to the left and then merge with traffic in the roundabout. A slow speed of around 15 to 20 mph is crucial.

It's important to never change lanes in a roundabout. The Wisconsin Department of Transportation has helpful information to help to maneuver in these type of traffic circles.
