'Slow the heck down!': West Allis mayor asks drivers to be careful after close call

WEST ALLIS, Wis. (CBS 58) -- The message to drivers throughout the area from one local mayor is to stay more aware of your surroundings when driving. Mayor Dan Devine of West Allis was prompted to deliver the message after experiencing a close call.

Devine was struck by a car early Monday, April 29, leading the mayor to take to social media to tell the story, though it was a minor accident where he only suffered two scraped knuckles and a bruised hip.

The crash took place when Devine was walking his dog Monday morning.

While his accident was minor, it led the mayor to advocate on Facebook for people to slow down, especially as warmer weather will have more people taking to the streets outside of cars.

He even made time for a joke, saying, "I know some of you may dream of this opportunity," but that people should seriously make time to slow down and drive with care.
