Shorewood Police investigating armed carjacking in underground parking structure

UPDATE: SHOREWOOD, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Shorewood police are investigating an armed robbery and carjacking that happened late Monday afternoon on Oakland Avenue near E Menlo Boulevard.

According to police around 4:40 the victim was walking from their car in an underground garage into a building, when three suspects approached and said they had a gun.

“I wouldn't' say I'm super surprised,” said Kate Jiannacopoulos, who also parks in the garage where it happened. “Not that it's dangerous, but carjackings happen and break ins happen.”

As people walked to and from their cars Monday night, they were uneasy.

“I don't feel safe at all,” said Kristal Irizarry, who parks in the garage. “It's scary right now.”

The carjacking happened before sundown, but several people who park in the garage say it's especially concerning because for the past few days these lights haven't been working. The building landlord says maintenance will look at the lights Tuesday.

“It's here and there. One night there will be lights, one night you'll come there'll be no lights,” said Irizarry. ”So it's unpredictable.”

These women say it's a reminder that no matter where they are-, even if it's at home, they need to be cautious.

“I'm probably just going to be more alert in the evenings, coming to and from my car,” Jiannacopoulos said.

Police are still searching for the suspects and the stolen vehicle.

The Shorewood Police Department responded to an armed robbery/carjacking in the 3500 block of N. Oakland Ave.

According to police, the victim involved in the incident was inside an underground parking structure and was walking towards the entrance of the building when they were approached on foot, from behind, by three unknown suspects.

The suspects implied they had a handgun and stole victim's vehicle.

The suspects then fled the scene in the stolen vehicle and were not located.

There were no injuries as a result of the incident. 

No other details are available at this time and the incident is under investigation.
