Ribbon Cutting marks the completion of phase one of Lakefront Gateway Project

What many consider "Milwaukee's front door" is now much more user-friendly.

"For all the confusion that people had for several years, the picture is starting to become more clear. We have changed a backdoor-type entrance to the lakefront and Summerfest to a front door," said Mayor Tom Barrett.

A ribbon cutting was held outside of the Summerfest grounds. This marked the completion of one phase of the Lakefront Gateway Project.

The new roadwork includes two ramps that connect 794, an extension of Lincoln Memorial Drive into the Third Ward, and turning a portion of Clybourn Street into a boulevard.

It also opens the area to the future development 'The Couture Apartment Tower' and a pedestrian-friendly plaza.
