Residents of apartment building escape early morning fire

Twelve people were able to get out of their apartments safely, escaping an early morning fire at S 5th Street and W Lapham Boulevard in Milwaukee.   According to the Milwaukee Fire Department, a cooking fire was reported around 1 AM.   The fire was confined to the kitchen area of one apartment, but adjacent apartments received smoke and water damage.   The Red Cross was called to assist residents of the building who were impacted by the fire.   The amount of damage to the building and it contents is said to be significant.
