Racine parents charged with child neglect after 9-year-old calls 911

RACINE COUNTY, Wis. (CBS 58) -- A Racine couple is charged after their 9-year-old son called 911 on them.

The couple is facing charges of child neglect, resisting an officer, and disorderly conduct.

According to the criminal complaint, officers were called to a home on Superior Street on Wednesday after a 9-year-old boy called to report that his mother was being choked by her husband.

Upon arrival, the couple told police that everything was fine and that they should leave. When officers attempted to question the husband, he began shouting and struggling with them. The wife then allegedly became physical towards officers as well.

The husband refused to give police his name but the 9-year-old boy told officers what it was.

When officers did a protective sweep of the home, they located multiple kids clothing items covered in feces in nearly every single bedroom. Three of the four children in the home were also wearing diapers full of feces, the criminal complaint alleges. Scattered throughout the home were used diaper wipes, and garbage was found mixed with dirty clothes.

According to the complaint, there was also a lack of edible food available for the children, broken glass in the bedroom and in the bottom of a bassinet, and feces smeared throughout the house.

Human services took custody of the children.
