2. RAM’s First 20 Years: A Visual History

RAM’s First 20 Years is a visual summary of the art and architecture that helped shape the early chapters of Racine Art Museum, home of North America’s largest contemporary craft collection. The exhibition blends objects from RAM’s holdings with photographs of both the building designed by Brininstool + Lynch and the galleries filled with art.

Celebrating an anniversary often involves an assessment of where things are and where they could be relative to where they were. RAM is an institution focused on creativity and vision and the building reflects that. Looking back at what motivated design plans and architectural concepts provides background for considering future objectives.

While RAM’s collection has grown exponentially since the museum was first built, it is still rooted in the kind of work that encouraged the overall design. In addition, certain facets have been expanded such as the rotating exhibition series that occurs in the Windows on Fifth gallery on the south side of the museum’s ground floor. While it was originally intended to focus on artists working with clay, metal, and glass, various exhibitions have included found objects, fibers, and natural materials.

Open now through July 20, 2024.

  • June 17, 2023 - July 20, 2024
  • every day until July 20, 2024
  • Location: 441 Main St., Racine Art Museum, WI

3. Starving Artist Fair

The Racine Art Guild’s Starving Artist Fair is held the first Sunday of August. This juried fair features the work of over 120 artists. The Fair is always a showcase for Racine’s well-known status as an arts community. One quarter of the artists come from Racine county—the remainder of the talent comes to Racine from throughout the Midwest. Nearly every medium of original art is represented in show, including painting, photography, ceramics, glass, mixed media, metalwork, fine jewelry making and more.

In addition to the fabulous variety and quality of artists, we are looking forward to great food, kids’ art activities at Kids Korner, and music. Please also visit the Silent Auction (participating artists’ donated artwork), Racine Art Guild Boutique (participating Guild Members work for sale), and our raffle (Guild members donated artwork).

Approximately 5,000 visitors enjoy the beautiful park setting with views of Lake Michigan. The setting complements the featured art, entertainment, food, children’s art activity area and more. The event is free and open to the public.

Proceeds of the fair support the Racine Art Guild College Scholarship Fund which awards up to four $1,000 scholarships annually to local artists pursuing a degree in fine art.
