Racine man charged after stealing girlfriend's car, selling it

RACINE, Wis. (CBS 58) -- The Racine Police Department conducted an investigation into the theft of a 2004 Mitsubishi Eclipse.

According to the criminal complaint, the victim stated that her ex-boyfriend Daniel Ahles stole her car and sold it to a resident in West Allis back in April.

The vehicle was recovered by the Milwaukee Police Department and was titled to the West Allis man who purchased the car. He told police that he bought the car from Ahles.

Police made contact with Ahles who said his ex-girlfriend sold him the car and that he sold it to the man in West Allis.

Documents from the Department of Transportation showed that the victim registered and titled the car in her name. Investigators also received a title for the car that reported to show Ahles as the buyer and the victim as the seller. The victim stated that she did not sell the car to Ahles and did not sign the title over to him. Investigators learned that the signatures of the victim on the two titles did not match.

Ahles now faces charges of uttering a forgery, felony personal id theft, and felony theft of moveable property.
