MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- City leaders and organizations on Thursday, Oct. 19, teamed up to host Project Homeless Connect.
The event was hosted by the Milwaukee Coalition on Housing and Homelessness, United Way of Greater Milwaukee & Waukesha County, and Marquette University.
Project Homeless Connect provides a range of services including housing resources, dental and vision exams, meals and warm weather items. Almost 1,200 people participated in the last in-person event in Milwaukee, with roughly equal numbers of service users and volunteers.
"Today is a one stop shop model, we bring together lots of different resources for folks experiencing homelessness, we make it all free and accessible," said Kristina Kohler of United Way of Greater Milwaukee & Waukesha County.
Among the speakers were Milwaukee Mayor Cavalier Johson and County Executive David Crowley.
"Today is a true example of what it looks like to have cross county collaborations that is needed to really address the immense challenge of housing insecurities right here within the city of Milwaukee," said Crowley.
About 500 to 700 people facing homelessness were helped Thursday.
