Police investigate fatal home invasion near 8th and Galena
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Milwaukee police are investigating a homicide following a home invasion that left a 70-year-old dead near the corner of 8th and Galena. It reportedly took place early Friday, April 25 at around 12:10 a.m.
According to police, the victim was battered during the invasion and sustained fatal injuries, being pronounced dead at the scene.
Johnny Watson has lived at Plymouth Apartments where the home invasion took place for 12 years, Watson says this is the first time he's been concerned about his safety since living here.
“I just happened to be looking out the window and I saw the ME and two other guys come over to the complex and move the body out and I was like wow. This is ridiculous that this is happening in gated community like this where all seniors live here," said Watson.
The department confirmed that the investigation is ongoing and that a known suspect or suspects are being sought in connection with the case.
“It’s a shame that we have to live like this and be in fear and you could be living in your own home and things like this, stuff like this happen," said Watson.
Milwaukee police have not yet released the name of the victim. Anyone with information is asked to contact MPD at (414) 935-7360. Those who prefer to remain anonymous can reach out to Crime Stoppers at (414) 224-Tips or through the P3 Tips online service.
