Police: A Connecticut man pushed girlfriend onto train tracks

Waterbury, CT (WFSB) -- A woman was hurt after being pushed from a train platform onto the tracks by her boyfriend in Waterbury on Thursday.

Police said they arrested Christopher Norton, 39, of Naugatuck for the crime. He was set to face a judge on Friday.

Police said they had to stop a Metro-North train heading to Waterbury while rescue workers prepared to take the victim to Waterbury Hospital.

Norton and his girlfriend had been drinking beer on the platform while waiting for a train to Naugatuck, according to police. Both looked to be drunk.

Before the incident, Norton tried to start fights with other people on the platform, police said.

Eyewitnesses reported seeing the couple fight. That was followed by Norton pushing the woman onto the tracks.

Police said it was about a 5-foot drop onto the tracks.

They said the woman suffered a large cut on her head, but she was not seriously hurt.

Norton was charged with assault, breach of peace and reckless endangerment.
