Packers in Playoffs Impacts Workplace Productivity

Marquette University management professor John Cotton says anticipation over a Packers playoff game causes at least a slight drop in workplace productivity. He says that comes from employees spending more time talking to each other about the game.

He also says that comes with the long-term benefit of employees feeling closer to each other, and that makes people happier at work.

Some Milwaukee County employees wear Packers shirts and jerseys while at work. Cotton says doing that in any service field helps employees connect with customers, “As long as they’re not from Chicago or Minneapolis, I think it probably helps to signal hey they’re part of the community, they’re a little bit more casual.”, Cotton said.
