MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- A Riverwest neighborhood teamed up to stop an out-of-control driver.

The man hit several parked cars before neighbors stepped in.

The driver circled the neighborhood near Meinecke and Booth several times, hitting multiple cars, two trees and a no parking sign.

It was only after two men pulled the driver from his truck and held him down that the chaos ended.

“I heard a loud boom, boom, boom noise and I ran,” said Klav Mednis, who was sitting in his living room and heard a car crash outside.

“He caused a commotion, he hit a bunch of vehicles and he got a bunch of the neighborhood around here pretty worked up,” said Adrian Love whose car was damaged in the incident.

Love found his car 20 feet from where he left it and the driver who hit it, still behind the wheel.

“He was reaching for his seat belt and I thought he was reaching for a weapon so I didn't really want to stop him at first,” said Love.

“The person in the car was not cooperating, he was reaching for something,” said Mednis.

Mednis ran to the scene with no shoes on and knew he had to act fast. “He wanted to run away, he wanted to run through the alley,” said Mednis.

Mednis and Love pulled the man from the car and after a short fight, got him on the ground and held him until help arrived.

“It was something that needed to be done to get somebody off the road,” said Mednis.

“He was a danger to everyone, it was just a matter of how much time before he hurt someone,” said Love.

They said the man appeared to be intoxicated and there was no way they were going to let him back behind the wheel.

“I dropped him down on the ground and help him until authorities arrived,” said Mednis.

Love says the driver didn't have insurance, and Love's car is likely a total loss.
