Mount Pleasant man arrested for 5th OWI offense Friday night

During a routine traffic stop for a defective tail light, Mount Pleasant Police arrested a man for his fifth operating while intoxicated (OWI) offense Friday night.

The traffic stop occurred at 9:19 p.m. Friday near Washington Ave. and Emmertsen Rd. After conducting the initial traffic stop, it was determined that the 56-year-old man from Mount Pleasant was impaired.

Police conducted Standardized Field Sobriety Tests on the man, and he failed those tests.

After further investigation, officers determined the man has been convicted of four prior OWI's and he had a restriction not to operate a vehicle with an alcohol level of more than 0.02% BAC.

Officers gave the man a preliminary breath test (PBT) and the results were a 0.19% BAC.

The man was arrested for OWI, fifth offense. He also received a citation for his defective tail lights. The OWI charge was referred to the Racine County District Attorney's Office.
