Mother charged in death of 4-year-old son, shot with gun found in her purse

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- A Milwaukee mother has been charged in the death of her 4-year-old son, Jamero Edwards.

Police say last month, 31-year-old Tiara Edwards had a gun in her purse, and her 4-year-old child was able to get ahold of it.

Other kids in the house at 64th and Bradley told police that once the 4-year-old took the gun, he handed it to a 6-year-old and told the 6-year-old to shoot them. A criminal complaint says the child did not know the gun was loaded.

Jamero died shortly after at an area hospital.

The complaint says the gun was inside Edwards' purse, which was on the floor next to the couch. Edwards confirmed the revolver was hers and that she kept it loaded.

Edwards is charged with neglecting a child, resulting in death.

A preliminary hearing is set for March 20.
