Mitchell Airport sees Passenger Growth for Seventh Straight Month

Passenger growth continues at Mitchell Airport, where the number of travelers choosing MKE surged by more than four percent in March. According to a release from the airport, the increase marks the Airport’s seventh consecutive month of passenger traffic growth.

“The #1 thing Milwaukee travelers can do to help our Airport get more nonstop service is to choose MKE for their travel,” County Executive Chris Abele said.  “It’s great that our numbers are increasing at a good clip in 2016.  We’re up more than six percent in the first quarter, and we expect that momentum to continue as we move into the busy summer travel months.”

Additional spring break flights contributed to Southwest’s gain of 12,000 passengers in March. Southwest has the largest market share at MKE.

According to statistics released by the Airport, 651,546 passengers used MKE in March, an increase of 4.1% from the 626,067 that chose MKE in March 2015. Fares remain low, too. MKE’s average fare remained below the national average, according to statistics released this week by the U.S. Department of Transportation.

“As more Wisconsin and Illinois travelers choose MKE for its convenience and low fares, our Airport can attract more new service from the airlines,” Airport Director Izzy Bonilla added. “My message to travelers is to start your trip here, even if you have to make a flight connection.”
