MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- A father has been arrested after a 4-year-old boy allegedly shot his 2-year-old brother over the weekend.
Police were called out to a home near 18th and North on Saturday. Upon arrival, they learned that the 4-year-old got a hold of a handgun left out and shot the 2-year-old in the foot.
The 2-year-old was taken to a local hospital and is being treated for what is believed to be a non-life threatening injury. The mother tells CBS 58 they don't know how the 4-year-old got a hold of the gun, but the 2-year-old is home safe and playing with his brother. The two are too young to understand what happened, but they know the two-year-old has an "owie" on his foot. She hopes her two-year-old will be able to stand and walk soon.
The father of the 2-year-old child was arrested for leaving a firearm in reach of a child. The mother says he is still in custody.
Charges are pending.
