Milwaukee man sentenced to life in prison for firing shots that killed 1-year-old girl

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- A Milwaukee man was sentenced to life in prison Friday after firing shots that killed a 1-year-old girl. 

Davon Chapman was found guilty of first-degree intentional homicide after shooting at a car the child was riding in in June of 2023. 

One-year-old Zy'Aire Nevels was killed while sitting in her car seat inside a vehicle near 19th and Atkinson.

She was taken to a nearby fire station before being transported to a hospital where she later died.

"My daughter was a beautiful, young, intelligent, young little girl; she was empathetic, she was lovely, like she would light up everybody," said Zhane Brown, the 1-year-old's mother.
