Madison Runner Ticketed After Being Hit by Car

A Madison teenager who runs for West High School track team was struck by a car after running into traffic on busy Speedway Road at rush hour Tuesday afternoon, according to Madison Police.

 The 14-year-old suffered non life-threatening injuries and was treated at a hospital.

A 51-year-old Madison man told police he was driving south at about 25 mph when a large group of student runners crossed the roadway.

The victim was a bit behind the pack and was hit after entering the street.

The driver said he slammed on his brakes but was unable to prevent hitting the teen.

The student was not in a crosswalk and was cited for sudden pedestrian movement.
