Madison Inmate Locks Deputy in Cell, Threatens With Weapon Made From Scrabble Tray

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Authorities say an inmate at the Dane County Jail locked a deputy in a cell Wednesday and made threats with a weapon he had made from a Scrabble game.

Sheriff's officials say the male inmate was confined to the day room of the cell block. Another deputy was able to convince him to give up the knife-like weapon he had whittled from a Scrabble game letter tray.

WISC-TV reports the inmate has a history of behavioral and mental health issues and had previously been in solitary confinement because of those issues.
