MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- A large crowd gathered for a heartfelt balloon release for a 19-year-old who was cherished by many.

Loved ones honored Isaiah Goodrum’s life Friday night.

“He was well-loved by his family and his friends. He was just an amazing kid," his cousin Chassidy Lewis said.

Goodrum had just graduated from Bradley Tech High School and was ready to attend Milwaukee Area Technical College.

His cousin Chassidy said a piece of their family is now gone.

“Nothing has ever hit close to home like this, so this is very hard for our family. We’re taking it very hard," Lewis said.

“His smile just brightened up the whole room if you was (sic) having a gloomy day," friend Trinice Henning said.

Goodrum was shot Wednesday night near 50th & Hadley, where the vigil was held.

Police arrested a 16-year-old, 18-year-old and 19-year-old in connection with his death.

“Isaiah was the type of person, whenever you needed anything, you could call him and he’ll be right there," Henning added.

Authorities have not yet released a motive for the shooting.

But Goodrum’s cousin said there is an important lesson in this tragedy.

“Just be aware of who you call your friends. Everybody is not your friend and that’s something that these young kids need to know," Lewis said.
