Last blue supermoon until 2037 occurs tonight

A rather cool and rare lunar event will be taking place tonight - a blue supermoon! But what exactly is a blue supermoon? On definition of a blue moon is a full moon that occurs twice in one month. Tonight's full moon will be the second full moon in August with the first one occurring back on August 1st. Blue moons typically occur once every two to three years.

Tonight's full moon will also be a supermoon, meaning it'll appear very large and bright in the sky due to the moon's close proximity to the Earth. A blue moon and a supermoon occurring at the same time is fairly rare. This won't happen again until January 2037! Moonrise is at 7:45pm, and we'll have a great view of it across the state as skies will be mainly clear.

Skies will remain mainly clear for several days, and all of that sunshine will have temperatures on a warming trend after today's highs in the 60s. We'll be in the 90s by this weekend and remain there through next Tuesday.
