62-year-old woman dies in house fire near 9th and Burleigh

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- A 62-year-old woman died in a house fire near 9th and Burleigh in Milwaukee early Monday, Jan. 15. 

The Milwaukee Fire Department reported the fire originated on the second floor of a 2.5-story home.

Officials say firefighters arrived within six minutes after the call. 

The fire department says, a 62-year-old woman died as a result of the fire. According to the Milwaukee Medical Examiner's Office, the deceased was identified as Elaine Veasley. 

An elderly man was also injured and taken to a hospital for treatment. 

Officials say although smoke alarms were present, they were non-functioning. 

Crews remained on the scene to contain the fire.
